Detailed Solution

VIBGYOR stands for Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red, representing the colors of the visible light spectrum seen in a rainbow. Indigo is included between violet and blue because it represents the transition color that appears in natural light dispersion.

When white light passes through a prism or raindrop, it splits into seven colors. Indigo lies between violet and blue, with a wavelength of about 445–464 nanometers. Though it looks similar to blue, it’s slightly deeper and has its own place in the spectrum.

Sir Isaac Newton first divided visible light into these seven colors, inspired by the number seven’s symbolic importance in art and music. Even though in modern physics indigo is sometimes merged with blue, it remains a traditional part of VIBGYOR to represent the complete range of visible light.
