Detailed Solution

Under Chandra Gupta II's rule, the Chinese pilgrim Fa-Hien travelled to India. His main objective was to go to Buddhist temples and collect scriptures. As a result, he explored the entire Gupta realm and recorded his observations about India. In a Mahayana monastery, he discovered a copy of the Vinaya Pitaka, which contains the Mahasanghika regulations written in Sanskrit. He spent more than three years in Patliputra, learning Sanskrit and codifying Vinaya standards. In Middle India, he also travelled to Taxila, Pataliputra, Mathura, and Kannauj. He also wrote about Sravasti, Sarnath, Bodh Gaya, Vaishali, Rajgir, and other locations connected to the Buddha's life.
