Ramdeo Misra is revered as the Father of Ecology in India. Born on 26 August 1908, Ramdeo Misra obtained Ph.D. in Ecology (1937) under Prof. W. H. Pearsall, FRS, from Leeds University in the UK 

Aparajita  Datta is an Indian wildlife ecologist who works for the Nature Conservation Foundation.

The Indian Ecological Society was established in 1974 with eminent ecologist, educationist, and administrator, Prof. A.S. Atwal as the Founder President. It is one of the pioneering organizations of India engaged in advances in ecological sciences and environmental protection.

 Parasu Ram Mishra (died 2001) was an Indian soil conservationist and environmentalist, credited with efforts for the transformation of Sukhomajri, a small village in Chandigarh in the valley of Shivalik Hills.
