The Food Corporation of India was established under the Food corporations Act of 1964. The main purpose and areas of functioning of this governmental organisation are to purchase food grains at the set MSP(Minimum Support Price). Food Corporation of India operates in 5 zones throughout India, i.e. the North zone, East zone, West zone, South zone, and North East zone.
Functions of FCI:
1)      Executing the food policies of the Government of India.
2)      Purchasing food grains from the farmers at a minimum support price.
3)      Another function of FCI is preserving the food grains unless it is liquidated for PDS.
