Detailed Solution

Rat hole mining is a coal mining practised by family members in Jowai and Cherrapunji.
In northeast tribal areas, people mine according to their requirements and don't take government permission. One such tribe is in Meghalaya state of Jowar and Cherrapunji town ( also known for the world's highest annual rainfall ). These town family members do coal mining through a long narrow tunnel, so it is known as Rat hole mining. It was banned by the National Green Tribunal in 2014 as they consider it unscientific.
