Detailed Solution

Rivers like Tapi and Periyar form estuaries. The estuary is a wide mouth of a river that joins the sea. Estuaries create a transition of land to sea and freshwater to saltwater. Tapi, the second-longest west-flowing river of peninsular India, makes an estuary near the coast of Surat, where it drains itself into the Arabian Sea. Periyar is also a west-flowing river that forms estuaries when it drains into the Arabian Sea. Periyar river is the Lifeline of Kerala as it fulfils all water needs in Kerala. Periyar rivers originate from Sivagiri Hills in Tamil Nadu and mostly flow in central Kerala.
