Detailed Solution

‘Slash and burn agriculture is known as jhum cultivation in North-Eastern states. Slash and Burn Agriculture is a type of farming method involving cutting and burning trees and other plants in a forest or woods to make a field for farming in that area. The field made by cutting and burning the plants is called a Swidden. The term ‘slash’ means cutting down vegetation, i.e., trees and plants. Then comes the ‘burning’ part, where the ground is set on fire to make the soil pest-free. In Bangladesh and India, this method is called Jhum or Jhoom. In India, it is mainly done in the Northeast region, which includes states like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Sikkim.
