On December 23, an explosion occurred in an underground gas well in Gao Qiao town, Chongqing, China. This incident caused the discharge of hydrogen sulphide, which is poisonous if inhaled. The deadliest explosion in Chinese history is suspected of being caused by a drilling-induced puncture in the highly pressurised gas well. Many people died due to their inability to flee following the blast. Those who did not flee in time received gas burns to their eyes, skin, and lungs.
