Detailed Solution

In the upper parts of the Himalayas, precipitation is mostly in the form of snowfall. The cold climate and high altitude of the Himalayas result in precipitation in the form of snowfall. This snow melts to form water due to friction. The high peaks of the Himalayas obstruct the monsoon winds. They go up to cause precipitation in this region. But, the Himalayan peaks are very high. With the increase in altitude, the temperature drops significantly. As a result, the winds become colder once they reach the top and cause snowfall instead of rainfall. The monsoons cause rainfall in the rest of the Indian subcontinent. The Himalayas are considered to have a tropical climate. These mountain ranges receive precipitation even during dry periods. There is increased precipitation from the west to the east of the Himalayas.
