The East India Company appointed a paid servant called the gomastha to supervise weavers. The Company's weavers were forbidden from engaging with any other buyers. The East India Company was the one that appointed them. The majority of these products were exported to Europe. Gomasthas major job was to keep an eye on the weavers and make sure they weren't selling their cotton to other countries. These paid servants did not have a close contact with the weavers and acted arrogantly with troops on their side, punishing those who were late with their service.
