Detailed Solution

The two important navigable rivers of India are the Ganga and the Brahmaputra.
14,500 km of inland waterways are available for navigation in India. Only 5685 km of them can be navigated by mechanical vessels. The government has designated the following waterways as National Waterways. Navigable rivers are deep, broad, perennial (having water throughout the year), and devoid of obstructions like rocks, waterfalls, and acute bends. Vessels may move and transfer large cargo from one location to another in navigable rivers. India has two navigable rivers, the Ganga and the Brahmaputra. Between Allahabad and Haldia, the Ganga river (1620 km) is N.W. No.1 and between Sadiya and Dhubri, on the Brahmaputra river (891 km), is  N.W. No.2.
