Breadth of inside rectangle = 20 m

Area = length x breadth = 40 x 20 = 800 m²

Also given, width of shaded portion = 2 m

Length of rectangle including shaded portion = 40 + (2 x 2) = 44 m

Breadth of rectangle including shaded portion = 20 + (2 x 2) = 24 m

Area = l x b = 44 x 24 = 1056 m²

Area of shaded portion = Area of full rectangle - Area of inside rectangle
