The equation of parabola whose axis  parallel to y-axis is y=ax2+bx+c(1)
(1) passes through (2, 5)
5=4a+2b+c(2)

(1) passes through (1, 4)
4=a+b+c(3)
(1) passes through (–1, 8)
8=ab+c(4)
from (2) and (3)
4a+2b+c=5a+b+c = 4 -  -  -      -  3a+b=15 
from (3) and (4)
a+b+c=4a-b+c=8- + -   -  2b=-4 
b =–2
from (5)                       3a+b=1                         3a2=1       a=1                             from (3)c=4ab                      c=41+2                       c=5             
∴ Equation of parabola is y=x22x+5
y=x22x+5
