In the early 1880s, a cattle plague called Rinderpest disease rapidly spread in Africa. It affected the local economy and livelihood of ordinary people. It killed approximately 90% of the total cattle, and the livelihood of African people was destroyed due to the loss of livestock. The planters, mine owners, and governments successfully monopolised the remaining scarce cattle resources.
