Let T be the tension in the string attached to M and T’ the tension in the string attached to 3kg and 2kg. 

Free body diagram for M as shown above. 

Since M is at rest, Mg=T.......(a)

Free body diagram for pulley 2 yields T=2T'---------(b)

For the 3kg mass, the equation of motion is 3×g-T'=3a......(c)

For the 2kg mass, the equation of motion is T'2g=2a......(d)

from (c) and (d), we get, g=5a

a=g5......(5)

Substituting for a in (d), we get, T'=2×g5+2g=12g5..........(6)

From (b), we get, T=2×12g5....(7)

From (a), we get, Mg=24g5, M=245=4.8kg

Therefore the correct answer is 4.80
