Let the number be x.
Thrice a number

= 3 \times x = 3 x

According to the situation,

50 - 3 x = 8

Therefore, the required equation is

50 - 3 x = 8 .

50 - 3 x = 8

\Rightarrow - 3 x = 8 - 50

\Rightarrow - 3 x = - 42
