FIR stands for First Information Report. An FIR is the first report filed after a crime or any such thing has happened. It is prepared by the SHO when he files a report or complaint made at the police station, after which he sends a constable to investigate the issue. The FIR is a written document prepared by the police after making a report of a cognisable offence. An FIR made against a person renders them unsuitable for government jobs. It is a report of the information that reaches for the first time or first in point of time to the police. This is why it is called the First Information Report. An FIR plays a major role in minimising crimes and solving cases.
