Detailed Solution

For plantation workers in Assam, Inland Emigration Act of 1859 did not permit them to leave the tea gardens without permission. The Inland Immigration Act of 1859 did not permit the plantation workers in Assam to leave the tea gardens without permission. As per the Act, the plantation workers of Assam were restricted from moving out of the tea gardens. They were not allowed to go to their native villages. If there was an emergency in their family, they rarely got permission to leave. But when they heard about Swaraj, thousands of workers left the plantation and went home. They believed that Gandhi raj was coming and everyone would get land in their villages.
