Hinduism became the most popular religion during Sib Singh's rule (1714–1744). The Ahoms used to worship their own tribal deities. But the influence of Brahmanas grew in the first part of the seventeenth century. The king gave territory to temples and Brahmanas. However, even after converting to Hinduism, the Ahom rulers did not totally renounce their old religious practices. In addition, the society of Ahom was exceedingly advanced. Land grants were offered to academics and poets. Important Sanskrit literature has been translated into the native tongue.
