Sol. The equation of given curve is y=bex/a

Let us consider a point x1,y1 on the curve.

Then, we have   y1=bex1/a

Differentiating the curve y=bex/a w.r.t. x, we get

dydx=bex/a·1a

  dydxx1,y1=baex1/a

Thus, the length of subtangent =y1dxdyx1,y1

=y1·abex1/a=bex1/a·abex1/a

=a (constant)

[using Eq. (i) and (ii)]

 Subtangent is of constant length a.

Again, length of subnormal =y1dydxx1,y1

=bex1/a·bex1/aa=1abex1/a2=1ay2   

[using Eq. (i)] 

Therefore, subnormal varies as the square of ordinate.
