Since the roots are real, the discriminant of the above equation is non negative

Hence, 

     b2-4ac=4a+12-49a-5>0 a2+2a+1-9a+5>0 a2-7a+6>0

it implies that 

 Both roots are in opposite sign then its product is negative 

it implies that 9a-5<0a<59

If both roots are negative then the sum is negative
