Detailed Solution

For treason, Nelson Mandela was charged by the White South African government.
Nelson Mandela was the face of the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. He demanded an end to this racial discrimination. The South African government, led by the White Europeans, vehemently practised "segregation" based on skin colour. It persisted in tormenting and slaughtering the dark and minority populations. Then came the fights and struggles to end the politically imposed segregation. Several arrests occurred in Johannesburg during the Treason Trial of 1956 in a raid to suppress the struggle. Nelson Mandela, along with 156 other people, was arrested on the ground of treason. But finally, in 1961, all the defendants were proven not guilty.
