Detailed Solution

James Mill thought that India could only civilise under  British rule as the Indians believed in superstitious practices, were religiously intolerant and had caste taboos. James Mill was a political philosopher and economist from Scotland. According to Mill, every country except Europe was less developed, and Hindus and Muslims dominated India before the British arrived, where superstition, caste taboos, and religious intolerance were commonplace. According to Mill, India could become more civilised under British rule. India had to accept European traditions and laws to be an advanced civilisation. Without the help of the British, India would not have been able to grow and civilise itself.
