Detailed Solution

The given pair of equations are 𝑘𝑥 + 3𝑦 − 1 = 0 and 12𝑥 + 𝑘𝑦 − 2 = 0

The pair of equations will have no solution if a1a2=b1b2c1c2

 Where a1=k,a2=12,b1=3,b2=k,c1=1,c2=2

k12=3kk2=36k=±63k=36 (k6)k=6

Hence, the value of 𝑘 is − 6.

                                                    (OR)

The given equation has equal roots.

The equation will have equal roots if discriminant (𝐷) = 0 𝑎 = 2, 𝑏 = 𝑘, 𝑐 = 8

a=2,b=k,c=8b24ac=0k24(2)(8)k2=64k=±8

Hence, the value of 𝑘 is ±8.
