Detailed Solution

Forests were categorized by the Forest Act of 1878.
The Forest Act of 1878 gave the British administration control over all wastelands, including woods. The administration was also allowed to demarcate protected and reserved woods due to this legislation. In the case of protected woods, local rights have been denied. However, the government might revoke some of the benefits provided to the locals at any time. This Act divided the protected woods, reserved forests, and village forests into three categories. 'Reserved woodlands' were the best. Villagers are forbidden from taking anything from the woodlands, even for personal use. Wood from the village or protected forests could be used for fuel or house construction. It aimed to restrict forest residents' gathering of forest produce and some activities.
