Assume that
Present age of fathers = x years.
Present age of sons = y years. According to the question
Age of father = 3

\times

age of son
Age of father =

(x - 4)

= (y - 4) \times 3 x

= 3 y - 8 \dots . . (1)

Now we calculate the age before 4 years of both then,
Age of fathers + Age of son = 64

\Rightarrow (x + 4) + (y + 4) = 64

\Rightarrow x + y = 56

\Rightarrow y = 56 - x

…………. (2)
We have solved for x value

x = 3 y - 8

\Rightarrow x = 3 (56 - x) - 8

\Rightarrow x = 3 \times 56 - 3 x - 8

\Rightarrow 4 x = 160

\Rightarrow x = \frac{160}{4}

x = 40 years

Hence the age of father in present = 40 years.
Correct option is 4.
