From Dandi, Gandhiji broke the salt law of the British government. Gandhiji started from Sabarmati on 12th March 1930, to the Coastal town of Dandi, which was 241 miles away from the origin. Gandhiji defied British policy by making salt from the salt water of the sea. He chose salt as it was a common food item used by everyone, whether rich or poor. The Civil Disobedience movement started with special stress laid on the boycott of foreign goods and picketing of liquor shops. Women played an important role in this movement and came to the forefront after the imprisonment of all the important leaders.
