Nepal is the country which was earlier a monarchy and has, over time, evolved into a democracy. A series of events have contributed to this evolution. The northern neighbour of India, Nepal shared boundaries with three states of India. India and Nepal share not just political and diplomatic relations but also social, cultural and religious aspects. Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev was the ruler or the monarch of Nepal who is considered the last monarch of Nepal. The 240 years old monarchy in Nepal ended and the constitutional assembly elections were held in 2008. The Constituent Assembly elected declared Nepal as the Federal Democratic Republic.
