Detailed Solution

From the late 18th century British in India began exporting opium to China and took tea from China to England.
Opium, a narcotic derived from unripe opium poppy seed pods, is said to have originated in what is now Turkey. Turkish and Arab traders brought it to China in the late sixth or early seventh century CE. By the early nineteenth century, handloom exports from India were declining, while raw materials (silk and cotton) and food grains were increasing. Manufactured goods from England entered India, destroying the Indian handicraft industries. The revenues from the sale of opium were used to purchase high-demand Chinese luxury commodities such as porcelain, silk, and tea.
