Let the river width be BD.

Height of bridge = 3 m So, CQ = 3 m

Question Image
Here, ∠PQB = 30o (Angle of depression)

∠RQD = 45o  (Angle of depression)

Since QC is height and it is perpendicular to BD.

Therefore, ∠QCB =∠QCD = 90o

Now, in △QBC,

tan30 =QCBC

13=3BC

BC=33 m

Now, in △QCD,

tan45=QCCD

1=3CD

CD=3 m

Therefore, BD=BC+CD

=33+3 m

=33+1 m

Hence, the width of the river is 3(3+1) m.
