Raw silk was extracted from The Cocoons of the silkworm. Silk has a very fine quality and lustre. Silk was the premium fabric in Old times. Making Silk was a complicated process. Raw silk was extracted from The Cocoons of the silkworm. This Silk is later spun into thread and then it is used for the weaving of clothes. Around 7000 years ago China discovered a technique for making silk but they kept it a secret. Silk clothes were sent to different places as a gift for rich merchants. The wearing of silk became the fashion amongst rulers and rich people in Rome. It was about 2000 years ago. Silk was very expensive during the time because it had to be imported through China.
