The brain is derived from the embryonic tissue layer known as the ectoderm. During the early stages of embryonic development, the ectoderm undergoes a process known as neurulation, which forms the neural plate, neural folds, and neural tube. The neural tube ultimately gives rise to the brain and spinal cord, while the neural crest cells give rise to the peripheral nervous system and many other structures.

The mesoderm is one of the three primary germ layers and gives rise to various tissues, including muscle, bone, and connective tissue. The endoderm gives rise to the lining of the digestive tract, respiratory tract, and other internal organs. The meso-endoderm is not a recognized germ layer in embryonic development.
