Detailed Solution

Most of the Indian indentured labourers came from Bihar, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu. Indentured labourers were engaged under contracts that guaranteed them a trip home once they had completed five years of service on their employer's plantation. The Caribbean islands, Mauritius, and Fiji, were the top destinations for indentured Indian immigration. Indenture in the nineteenth century has been compared to a new form of slavery. There were difficult working and living conditions and few legal rights. Indian national activists criticised the indentured labour system as harsh and cruel in the early 1900s.
