On 1 April 1999, Swarnajayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) was launched. Since its creation, DRDC (District Rural Development Cell) has increased its focus on Self Help Groups (SHGs), which have been discovered to be more practical and acceptable in West Bengal's rural regions due to their emphasis on community engagement for eradicating social inequities and poverty. It is repeatedly emphasised that the Block and Panchayats should focus more on establishing new self-help organisations and strengthening those that already exist. It has been shown that groups are more vulnerable than individuals to the components of financial management. Furthermore, the unique method looks unworkable in comparison to the group technique given the vast number of families on the working list.
