The nomadic tribe of Himachal Pradesh is the Gaddi shepherds.
They relocate throughout the summer and winter. Since the high mountains were covered with snow throughout the winter, the Gaddis wintered in the low hills of the Shivaliks. In the scrubby woodlands, their cattle were grazing. They relocated to the villages of Lahaul and Spiti during the summer and planted some crops there. The higher slopes were covered in rich green grass when the snow had melted, so the Gadis relocated there. Their animals have access to abundant, nutrient-rich feed thanks to the mountainous grass. By September, they had stopped once more in the Spiti and Lahaul villages to reap the winter harvests and harvest the summer crops. They returned to the Shivalik hills to spend the winter there afterward.
