Detailed Solution

Gandhi decided to withdraw from the Non-Cooperation movement because of the Chauri-Chaura incident.
On 12 Feb 1922, Mahatma Gandhi decided to withdraw from the Non-Cooperation movement because on 5 Feb 1922, the Chauri-Chaura incident occurred. In Uttar Pradesh state, Gorakhpur district, people who participated in the Non-cooperation movement became too aggressive because the Britishers fired at the peaceful demonstration in Bazaar. Consequently, the aggressive revolutionaries burnt the police station at Chauri-Chaura and 22 police officers were killed. Gandhiji got shocked by this incident and halted the Non-Cooperation movement. Moreover, he felt that the campaign was turning violent in many areas and the Satyagrahis should be adequately trained for such mass movements.
