Mahatma Gandhi returned to India in 1915. He launched Satyagraha and organised the Kheda nonviolence to support the farmers of Kheda, Gujarat. In 1918, Kheda suffered a severe drought and a plague epidemic. Thus the peasants demanded a reduction in tax revenues. However, the government neglected their claims. So Gandhi began the signature movement through a non-cooperation campaign. Gandhi worked arduously to realise the support of the community. Finally, after a five-month struggle, the government relieved the financial gain crisis until the famine was over. Gujarat Sabha, under Gandhi's leadership, Indian servants in the eyes of the general public, Vallabh Bhai Patel and Indulal Yagnik played an essential role in the agitation.
