Gandhiji arrived in India in 1915.
Gandhiji in India from South Africa. He was already a respected leader, known internationally for leading Indians in nonviolent marches against racist government. His South African campaigns had brought him into contact with many Indians. Mahatma Gandhi spent his first year in India, touring the country and getting to know the people, their needs, and the overall situation. His first forays into politics were in local movements in Champaran, Kheda, and Ahmedabad, where he met Rajendra Prasad and Vallabhbhai Patel. In 1918, he led a successful millworkers' strike in Ahmedabad.
