Detailed Solution

Gandhi called off the Non-Cooperation Movement due to the Chauri Chaura incident. The Chauri Chaura incident transpired on February 5, 1922, in the Gorakhpur district of the British Republic of India. During the non-cooperation movement, a gaggle of protesters clashed with the police. As a result, the police officers opened fire on the protestors. Aggravated by this shooting incident, the demonstrators burnt down a station, killing all its occupants. On February 5, 1922, the protest became violent when complaining folks set fire to a station, burning police officers alive. This resulted in the deaths of twenty-two or three police officers and three civilians. When the incident occurred, Mahatma Gandhi, known as the 'Non-Cooperation Movement,' did not want the movement to turn violent.
