Detailed Solution

Gandhiji organised a satyagraha to support the peasants of the Kheda district of Gujarat in 1918. Mahatma Gandhi is credited with starting the first non-cooperation movement with the Kheda Satyagraha in 1918. Due to crop failure, the farmers were in distress. But the British administration insisted on collecting all land revenue and refused to remit any of it. As part of the satyagraha, Mahatma Gandhi advised the peasants to delay paying revenue until their petition for its remission was granted. The government finally agreed to minimise the tax rate rise, postpone the tax for the current year and the following year, and return all confiscated property.
