Detailed Solution

Gandhiji proposed the term Harijan for those from the untouchable castes.
Harijan means "a child of God. Harijan was a term used by Mohandas Gandhi to refer to the Dalit community. Before that, it was called "untouchable". Gandhi believed it was wrong to call people "untouchable" and began to call them "Harijan. This essentially means a child of God. It is still widely used, especially in his hometown of Gujarat. The term may also be derived from Pakistan's Dalits being called Harris and a group of Pucca homebuilders. But his coined term was only part of a politically-led campaign to mobilise the masses against colonial forces.
