Gandhiji started from Sabarmati on March 12th, 1930, to the coastal town of Dandi, which was 241 miles away from the origin. Gandhiji defied British policy by making salt from the sea's salt water. Salt is a common food item used by everyone, whether rich or poor. The Civil Disobedience movement started with breaking the salt law, and particular stress was laid on the boycott of foreign goods and picketing liquor shops. By taxing salt, the British Colonial government controlled every section of society. Women played an essential role in this movement and came to the forefront after the imprisonment of all the influential leaders.
