Detailed Solution

Gandhiji started the movement to break the Salt Law in 1930. This law gave the government the exclusive right to produce and distribute the salt. Gandhi launched the Civil disobedience movement. Gandhiji started the Dandi march on 12 March 1930 to break the salt law.  Gandhiji and his supporters walked from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi in Surat, where they collected seashore salt and made salt by heating seawater. Gandhiji thought that if a movement was launched on the national level to abolish the salt law, it could unite the nation because salt was something essential consumed by the rich and poor.
