Concept: A peptide hormone called gastrin stimulates the parietal stomach cells' production of gastric acid and helps in gastric motility. G cells in the pancreas, duodenum, and pyloric antrum of the stomach deliver it.

It also functions as a disinfectant and kills the majority of germs that enter the stomach with food, reducing the risk of sickness in the gastrointestinal tract. Additionally, gastrin stimulates the growth of the stomach covering and increases the muscle contractions in the gut to aid in absorption.
