Detailed Solution

General Pervez Musharraf led a military coup in October 1999. This meant that the army leader overthrew the elected government and established his own rule. Various malpractices occurred during his rule, and any kind of opposition to his rule was suppressed. In 2002, he held a referendum in Pakistan to extend his rule as the President for five years. Then in the same year, he issued a Legal Framework Order that introduced a constitutional amendment in the Pakistani Constitution that gave him the powers to dismiss the elected national and provincial assemblies. Thus, Pakistan is a classic example of a dictatorship.
