Detailed Solution

Germany had to pay compensation of 6 billion pounds after the First World War. As per the peace treaty at Versailles, the Weimar Republic was responsible for following the terms stated. Germany was humiliated by this experience. The War Guilt Clause held Germans liable for the losses Allies suffered and the war's consequences. The republic had to pay 6 billion pounds as compensation and give away 75% of its iron, 13% of its territories, and 26% of its coal to Poland, Denmark, France, and Lithuania. The country also lost its overseas colonies and about a tenth of its population.
