* Based on the position of centromere, the chromosomes are four types.
* Metacentric chromosome $\to$Centromere is present in the middle of two arms.
* Submetacentric chromosome $\to$ Centromere is slightly away from the center of the chromosome resulting in one shorter arm and one longer arm.
* Acrocentric chromosome $\to$Centromere is situated close to its end forming one extremely short and one very long arm.
* Telocentric chromosome $\to$It has terminal centromere.
