Detailed Solution

The language policy followed in India has strengthened national unity by accommodating the different linguistic groups. India is a country with a wide diversity of ethnicity within its population. Therefore the needs and aspirations of every segment have to be taken care of to avoid violence and maintain peace and harmony in the country. If the language policy had not been adopted after independence, then there would have been many partitions with every state demanding independence. If Hindi had been imposed on the entire nation, then the country's Southern region would have appealed to break away from the country as Hindi is spoken mainly in Northern India. Thus, the language policy adopted in India is such that there is no national language, and the constitution of India has recognised 22 official languages.
