Detailed Solution

Releasing and inhibiting hormones regulate the secretion of anterior pituitary hormones but not temperature. For example, hypothalamus secretes somatocrinin which stimulates the release of growth hormone and somatostatin which inhibits the release of growth hormone.  For the regulation of body temperature, the hypothalamus receives input from temperature sensors in the skin and from other areas of the brain. When the body's temperature begins to rise or fall, the hypothalamus responds by activating or inhibiting various mechanisms that help to either raise or lower the body's temperature. If the body's temperature is too high, the hypothalamus may stimulate the production of sweat. If the body's temperature is too low, the hypothalamus may stimulate the production of heat, such as by increasing the activity of the muscles or by constricting blood vessels in the skin to reduce heat loss. The hypothalamus regulates body temperature by controlling the body’s metabolic rate.
