Hemophilia is an X-linked recessive genetic disorder, which means it is carried on the X chromosome. Since females have two X chromosomes (XX), they would need to inherit two copies of the hemophilia gene (one from each parent) to express the disorder.

However, it's extremely rare for females to be hemophilic because if they inherit one normal X chromosome and one X chromosome carrying the hemophilia gene, the normal gene typically compensates for the faulty gene, preventing the expression of the disorder. In such cases, females are carriers of the hemophilia gene but do not usually show symptoms.
